Do you really have an Independence Municipal Court traffic ticket?

There is confusion between Independence Municipal CourtJackson County Municipal Court, and the Circuit Court of Jackson County at Independence.

Each of these types of tickets is given in the City of Independence, Missouri. One is for local City of Independence police officers (Independence Municipal Court) the second is Jackson County Municipal Court (Jackson County Sheriff’s Department).   The third type would be the Circuit Court of Jackson County at Independence (the Missouri State Highway Patrol).

Look at your traffic ticket for Independence. In the upper left hand corner should be the type of department that gave you the citation. It should read Independence City Police.

When is Independence Municipal Court?

Hours of Operation of Independence Municipal Court are:
8:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Monday through Friday

Court Clerk telephones are answered from 8:00 a.m. through 3:30 p.m., but do not to expect to get far with this. Independence Municipal Court is under-funded and there are, frankly too few court clerks to ideally handle the case volume. This court’s staff works very hard…

The Cashier’s office operates from 8:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Expect a line of approximately fifteen minutes.

When are Independence Municipal Court Sessions?

The Court is in session on TUESDAY, WEDNESDAY, and THURSDAY. Independence Municipal Court dockets are 8:30 a.m., 9:30 a.m., 10:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m., and 2:30 p.m.

There are Friday morning court sessions for domestic violence charges.

Who are the Judges?

The Independence Municipal Court is presided by: Judge Garry L. Helm.  He handles the majority of Independence Municipal Court traffic citations, Driving While Intoxicated, and other misdemeanor crimes from Independence Police Department.

Judge Susan Watkins also handles a number of the dockets. You will also see her on the Friday Domestic Violence docket.

Who are the Prosecutors?

Independence Municipal Court Prosecutor, Mitch Langford is the primary prosecutor of Independence City.

There is also a Domestic Violence Prosecutor, Ellen Greenburg.

Driving While Suspended in Missouri is serious.  Expect that we will be able to keep this traffic ticket off of your criminal record. We will keep your DWS traffic ticket off of your driving record. This is almost assured.  It is imperative you have good criminal defense of Independence Driving While Suspended or Revoked traffic tickets.  Independence Municipal Court is where you want this problem solved.
